Jack believes that spending in America has gotten out of control. He was inspired to run for office to ensure future generations, including his own young children, are not burdened by debt and deficits. As a business owner Jack understands first-hand the importance of fiscal responsibility, and he knows that every dollar government spends—it has agreed to tax in the future. His number one priority is protecting Iowans from over-spending, and to achieve this he has filed a bill that would add a Balanced Budget Amendment to the Iowa Constitution. Jack will never waiver in fighting every day for smaller, less costly, and more efficient government.
Jack has been the Iowa Senate’s leading voice on tax reform for the last three years. The bedrock of his political philosophy is that allowing people to keep as much of their own hard-earned money as possible is not only the right thing to do—it benefits the economy as a whole. Jack believes the long-term key to Iowa’s success is a tax code that sparks commerce and delivers an active and expanding state-wide economy. He has recently introduced a bill to immediately reduce every Iowans income tax by 10%, as well as one that would eliminate Iowa’s income tax altogether.
Jack understands that agriculture remains the backbone of Iowa’s economy and will work to not only promote Iowa’s agricultural interests, but protect farmers from overzealous regulation and increased taxation.
Jack believes educating the next generation is the single most important thing we do as Americans. As a legislator and a father of three, he is extremely concerned with the performance of many of our schools. While some districts provide a world-class education—we cannot overlook the fact that others are failing. Jack is committed to returning ALL Iowa schools to the top-tier status they once enjoyed. To achieve this we must demand better results for the money we spend and we must have the courage to embrace technology, reform, and competition. Jack’s philosophy is that our kids should never lack adequate funding—but they also should never lack the fresh ideas and innovations that prepare our students for a 21st century economy.
